What Is

OQ8 Leadership Programme

In 2024, 21 Omani students took part in this leadership-focused cross-cultural training. The goal of the programme, which was held at Oxford International Study Centre in the U.K., was to build students’ confidence, cultural awareness and readiness to compete internationally. The curriculum included intensive English courses along with subject-specific learning in math, science and economics. Students also participated in leadership workshops and took field trips to London, Cambridge and Brighton, expanding their global outlook and positioning them as future industry leaders.

What Is

Science of a Refinery

Science of a Refinery is a flagship programme under OQ8’s Health and Education strategic pillar. In 2024 the programme engaged 600 students across 6 schools in Duqm to create 7 artificial palm trees (called “Energy Palms”) that generated enough renewable wind energy to charge electronic devices and even supply electricity to nearby areas. With a focus on hands-on learning to encourage creativity, collaboration and problem-solving, students made the palm trees with recycled plastics, putting into practice lessons on sustainability and connecting them to OQ8’s refining processes. Empowered by the chance to connect STEM to measurable impacts, the students left inspired and equipped to shape a more sustainable tomorrow.

What Is

Al Nokhedha Programme

The Youth Development Programme is an initiative under OQ8’s Health and Education social investment pillar that supports Oman Vision 2040’s goals for youth empowerment and sustainability. In 2024 over 100 students, from Wusta schools and chosen based on regional representation and leadership potential, participated in a 2-day course focused on building resilience and confidence through hands-on team-building exercises and problem-solving challenges. Hosted at Outward Bound Oman’s outdoor centers, the programme perfectly demonstrated OQ8’s brand promise to “give momentum to life and make it matter.”

Youth Development Programme

OQ8, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, launched the Climate Shapers Programme as part of the Green Schools National Project. This two-day immersive programme, which takes place at Outward Bound Oman’s outdoor centers in Sharqiyah
Sands, instills environmental awareness and leadership skills in Omani youth. Students engage in interactive workshops, team-building challenges, and hands-on sustainability activities. Participants,
selected from schools across Oman, develop essential life skills while gaining a deeper understanding of climate change, waste reduction, biodiversity, and the role of youth in achieving sustainability goals.
