A Duqm Refinery sponsored ‘Robotics Lab’ is launched at ‘STEM Week’ organized by the Ministry of Education

Duqm Refinery launched a ‘Robotics Lab’ as part of a ‘STEM Week’ organized by the Ministry of Education in Al Wusta region of Oman. STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics -subjects that are promoted by most government bodies around the world. Recent research suggests that nations investing in STEM subjects will have a stronger probability of growing a strong knowledge based economy.

Duqm Refinery has developed the ‘Robotics Lab’ in partnership with Engineering for Kids, a local organization that works primarily to implement educational program in STEM subjects at local schools.

As part of its support to the program, a number of teachers from the Al Wusta region were trained in Robotics and class room based exercises so that they can keep school children engaged with yearlong learning. The lab consists of a number of robots, spare parts for the bots and interactive screens to facilitate learning inside the classroom.

Duqm Refinery in the past has supported similar initiatives to promote STEM education. One example is the Science of a Refinery program that supported hands on experiments and activities that inspired students to love STEM subjects. The program had long standing aspirations of inspiring students to take a keen interest in Science and Math and hopefully specialize in them at University or College.
