Duqm Refinery Leadership, Planning and Sailing Skills Development Program (Al Nokhedha) Kicked Off in Duqm

Muscat: Duqm Refinery Leadership, Planning and Sailing Skills Development Program (Al Nokhedha) kicked off last week at Crowne Plaza Duqm. Fifty students from Al Wusta Governorate Schools took part in the program which is implemented in cooperation of Oman Sail and Ministry of Education represented by Directorate General for Education in Al Wusta Governorate. The program comes as part Duqm Refinery Social Investment initiatives aiming at enhancing the skills of Omani youth in the fields of leadership, self-dependence, responsibility and discipline. In addition, the program aims at providing the participants with soft skills such as communication skills, planning skills among others.

The program comes with the participation of 100 Omani youth, divided into two courses; the first one was for school student while the second is for graduates. On this occasion, Jasim bin Hassan Al Ajmi, Head of Corporate Sustainability in Duqm Refinery stated “Developing Omani Human is one of the top priorities of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for the important role it plays in achieving the goals of the blessed renaissance. This program by Duqm Refinery comes as an implementation of His Majesty insights to build future leaders in various fields. We are glad with our partnership with Oman Sail to implement this ambitious initiative which aims at enhancing the skills of leadership, communication and problem solving in the local community”.

From his side, Ahmed Al Mamary, senior trainer in the personal skills development in Oman Sail commented “Al Nokhedha program includes theoretical and practical sessions and discussion seminars to explore their feedback. Also, the program includes courses in sailing and navigation in which student practiced the skills they gained in theory”.

Majid bin Mohammed Al Junaibi, assistant manager at Student activites department in the Directorate General for Education said “Al Nokhedha program enriched our students with a number of skills such as resilience and time management and encouraged the students to be more active and energetic to face challenges and achieve their goals. I would like to thank Duqm Refinery and Oman Sail for organizing this event which lasted for three days”.

Hamed bin Mohammed Al Junaibi, a student from Dahar School spoke about his participation in the program saying “I am pleased to be part of this program and had the chance to build friendships relations with the other student. Also, the program enabled me to exchange expertise and to develop some skills such as teamwork, communication skills, setting personal objectives and planning to achieve them in the future”.

The program received yesterday the second batch of Omani youth in another course for three days. The participants will be trained in planning and employability skills in addition to sailing and navigation skills in entertaining yet informative way.

By actively investing on social responsibility initiatives, Duqm Refinery aims at engaging all segments of the society in those programs. One example of Duqm Refinery CSR initiatives is “The Science of the Refinery” initiative which is one of the initiatives that aims at Inspiring school children in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Also, “Wadha” initiative is Duqm Refinery flagship program to tackle issues around empowering and building capacity of women in Al Wusta region and across the Sultanate.

In addition to that, Duqm Refinery created a special program for its staff to encourage them to be volunteers in its CSR initiatives called “Sawaed”. The program aims at encouraging employees to dedicate part of their time to help implementing those initiatives in the Governorate of Al Wusta and across the Sultanate.
